This Quilter's Block Pattern Hides a Clever Secret for Perfect Points

Welcome back for week 22 of the Sewcialites 3 Quilt Along, where we're celebrating the incredible creativity of our quilting community. Each week, one of 25 amazingly talented designers brings us a new block pattern, and this time we're thrilled to introduce the grounded Down To Earth Block by Wendy Sheppard. ### Meet the Designer: Wendy Sheppard Wendy Sheppard is a seasoned quilt pattern designer known for her clean, classic style with a modern twist. Her Down To Earth Block is rated intermediate, thanks to its use of flying geese units and intricate piecing. If you've ever struggled with getting those points to line up perfectly, this block is a great challenge to sharpen your skills. Wendy is sewing her Sewcialites 3 Quilt using scrappy red, white, and blue scraps from her stash, giving the quilt a patriotic feel that's both timeless and personal. It's a great reminder that you don't need a coordinated fabric collection to make something stunning. ### Live Sewing Tutorial and Resources You can join Kimberly for a live sewing tutorial of the Down To Earth Block on Friday, July 24th, at 9:00 AM Central Time, in the Behind The Seams Livestream on the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube Channel. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the block constructed in real time and ask questions as you sew along. Here are the free resources you'll need for this block: - Sewcialites 3 Block 22 – Down To Earth by Wendy Sheppard Free PDF Pattern - Sewcialites 3 Information Packet Free PDF - 1 inch by 2 inch Flying Geese Quilt Block Foundation Paper - 1.5 inch by 3 inch Flying Geese Quilt Block Foundation Paper - Visit the Sewcialites 3 Quilt Along Supply Page for patterns for Blocks 1 through 21 ### Three Size Options to Explore One of the best parts of this quilt along is the flexibility. The Down To Earth Block is available in three sizes: 3 inches, 6 inches, and 9 inches. Each size offers a different look, and you can mix them within your quilt for a dynamic design. Kimberly sewed the 6 inch block using Lyda Rose by Bunny Hill Designs for Moda Fabrics. Gina Tell made the 3 inch block in Wild Honey by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. Pat Sloan pieced her 9 inch block with Rosie by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics. Three different collections, three different vibes, all beautiful. ### Quilty Staffers Join the Fun Our Quilty Staffers are also getting in on the action, making 9 inch blocks using three distinct collections: Blueprint by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics, American Gatherings III by Primitive Gatherings for Moda Fabrics, and In the Garden by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. It's exciting to see how the same block takes on a whole new personality with different fabrics. > "The best quilts come from the heart, not from a pattern. But a good pattern sure helps." – Anonymous quilter ### Join the Sewcialites Community Ready to chat?
