The Hens and Chicks Quilt Pattern comes in two sizes: a lap quilt and a runner. It's ideal for intermediate quilters who love perfectly matched points and are poke-a-pin pros. The lap quilt uses just three prints, so it's a great way to bust your stash of unused yardage. If you want to make one egg-sactly like ours, you can pick up the Hens and Chicks Quilt Kit and matching Backing Set. We used the Wildbriar collection by Sweetfire Road for Moda Fabrics for our quilt. The distilled color palette in this collection gives us a glimpse of the sun-dappled wonder that awaits beyond the garden gate. It's a lovely mix of soft greens, warm creams, and dusty blues that feels like a breath of fresh air. ### The Hens and Chicks Quilt Block This Fat Quarter-friendly block uses the magic of strip piecing to create a cute block that measures 18.5" x 18.5" unfinished. With just two fabrics and a background in each block, this Classic & Vintage block is a great way to showcase your favorite collections. With Kimberly as your guide in our step-by-step video tutorial, your roost will be full of these fun blocks before you know it. ### Tips for Perfect Points Getting those points to match up perfectly is the key to this block. Here are a few tips to help you along: - **Press, don't iron.** Ironing can stretch the fabric and distort the shapes. Press each seam flat before opening and pressing to the dark side. - **Pin generously.** Use fine pins and place them exactly where the seams intersect. This will keep everything aligned as you sew. - **Sew with a scant 1/4-inch seam.** A consistent seam allowance is crucial for accurate piecing. - **Starch your fabric.** A little starch can add stability and help prevent stretching. ### Share Your Work We hope you enjoy sewing with this free Hens and Chicks Block Pattern!
