### Wednesday Just Became Your New Favorite Day
If you're anything like me, you've been counting down the days since Moda Blockheads 7 was announced. Well, the wait is almost over. The first of 30 free quilt block patterns goes live tomorrow, and trust me, you won't want to miss a single Wednesday.
This quilt along hosted by Moda Fabrics is basically a 30-week party where quilters from all over the country stitch, share, and cheer each other on. And the best part? Kimberly is joining in again this year, sewing her blocks with Bloomsberry by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics. She's already got her fabric picked out and her plan in motion. So grab a cup of coffee, and let's talk about how you can get ready too.
### You're Invited to the Quilting Party
Moda Blockheads 7 kicked off on Wednesday, September 30th, and the final block drops on Wednesday, April 28th. Every Wednesday morning, you can head over to the Moda Inspiration + Resources blog for a fresh post all about that week's block. Then hop over to their Instagram and YouTube for weekly videos. These videos introduce the designer behind the block, walk you through construction, and point you to handy notions and tutorials. It's like having a quilting buddy right there with you.
If you want a sneak peek of what's ahead, the Welcome to Blockheads 7 video is already up on their channel. Give it a watch and get inspired.
### Two Ways to Quilt Along (Pick Your Pace)
This year, Moda is bringing back the Friends & Neighbors Blockheads 7 Quilt Pattern for those who like to sew at their own speed. It's a paid pattern, but it gives you the freedom to work ahead or catch up whenever it fits your schedule.
Of course, you can also stick with the weekly FREE block patterns. Either way, you'll be growing your skills, connecting with a fantastic quilting community, and sharing loads of inspiration. There's no wrong way to join in.
### Kimberly's Big Decision (She Needs Your Help!)
So far, Kimberly has two gorgeous layouts in mind for her Bloomsberry blocks, and she can't decide which one to sew. That's where you come in. She's asking for your thoughts in the comments below. Which layout would you pick? Stay tuned to see what she chooses.
> "I love how a simple block can look completely different depending on how you set it. That's the magic of a sampler quilt." – Kimberly
### Fabric Requirements: What You'll Need
Because this is a sampler quilt with different setting options and block sizes, the exact fabric requirements will vary. It depends on how scrappy you like your blocks, which setting you choose, and a few other variables.
Moda recommends starting with 30–35 assorted print fat quarters and 4 yards of background fabric to make the blocks. Kimberly is using the Bloomsberry Fat Quarter Bundle, which comes with 40 fat quarters, plus 7–8 yards of Bloomsberry White Favorite Dot for her background. She's all set and ready to sew.
Here's a quick checklist to get you started:
- 30–35 print fat quarters (or a bundle like Bloomsberry)
- 4 yards of background fabric (Kimberly uses 7–8 yards for her layout)
- Your favorite rotary cutter, ruler, and sewing machine
- A sense of adventure and a little patience
