There's something about fall that makes you want to curl up with something soft and warm. And if you can make that something yourself? Even better. That's exactly why we're excited about the Flannel Rag Quilt—a project that's as forgiving as it is cozy. ### Why a Rag Quilt Should Be Your Next Project Rag quilts are having a moment, and for good reason. They're quilt-as-you-go, which means you don't have to wrestle a huge quilt through your machine. And the best part? No pattern required. Seriously. If you can sew a straight line, you can make this quilt. But here's the thing that really sets rag quilts apart: those frayed seams. At first, they look a little rough around the edges—literally. But after a few washes, they soften up and create this incredible texture that you just can't get from a traditional quilt. It's like your favorite worn-in flannel shirt, but in blanket form. "Rag quilts are the perfect excuse to embrace imperfection," says our resident quilter, Teresa. "The more frayed and fuzzy it gets, the better it looks." ### What You'll Need You don't need much to get started. Just 7 half-yard cuts of flannel and a few basic supplies. We used Flannel Gatherings Basics by Primitive Gatherings for Moda Fabrics, and let me tell you, it's buttery soft. Here's the full list: - 7 half-yard cuts of flannel (we used Flannel Gatherings Basics by Primitive Gatherings for Moda Fabrics) - 50wt Aurifil Toast 100% Cotton Mako Small Spool Thread - Clover White Chaco Liner Pen - Sweet Snips 8" Fabric Scissors (or try Famore Rag Quilt Snips—Teresa's favorite for snipping fringe) That's it. No batting, no backing, no binding. Just flannel, thread, and a little patience. ### How to Make It We've put together a free video tutorial that walks you through the entire process, from cutting to snipping. It's hosted on our YouTube channel, so you can sew along at your own pace. The quilt-as-you-go method means you're building the quilt and quilting it at the same time—no basting, no pinning, no stress. And because there's no pattern, you can make it any size you want. A baby quilt, a throw, a king-size bed quilt—it's totally up to you. Just adjust the number of half-yard cuts accordingly. ### Share Your Creation We'd love to see what you make!
