Week 22 of Sewcialites 3 brings the Down To Earth block by Wendy Sheppard—an intermediate design with flying geese. Get the free pattern, see it in three sizes, and join the community.
Welcome back for week 22 of the Sewcialites 3 Quilt Along! We're so glad you're here as we celebrate this amazing quilting community. Each week, one of the 25 oh-sew-talented designers we've teamed up with brings you a brand new block pattern. This week, we're thrilled to introduce the grounded Down To Earth Block by Wendy Sheppard—a design that's perfect for anyone who loves a bit of structure with their creativity.
### Meet the Designer: Wendy Sheppard
Wendy Sheppard is a quilt pattern designer known for her thoughtful, precise work. Her Down To Earth Block is rated intermediate, so it's a great challenge for quilters who've mastered the basics and want to stretch their skills. The block features flying geese and plenty of piecing, giving you a chance to practice those sharp points and clean seams. You can join Kimberly for a live sewing tutorial of this block on Friday, July 24th, at 9 AM CT, in the Behind The Seams Livestream on the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube Channel. It's a fantastic way to sew along in real time and get tips from an expert.
Wendy is sewing her own Sewcialites 3 Quilt with scrappy red, white, and blue scraps from her stash. That's one of the best parts of this project—you can use whatever fabrics speak to you, whether that's a coordinated collection or a mix of leftovers that tell a story.
### What You'll Need for the Down To Earth Block

If you're just joining the quilt along, don't worry—you can visit the Sewcialites 3 Supply Page to catch up on patterns for Blocks 1 through 21. It's never too late to start, and the community is super welcoming to newcomers.
### See the Block in Three Sizes
One of the coolest things about this quilt along is seeing how the same block looks in different sizes and fabric collections. Kimberly sewed the 6 inch block using Lyda Rose by Bunny Hill Designs for Moda Fabrics. Gina Tell made the 3 inch block in Wild Honey by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. And Pat Sloan pieced her 9 inch block with Rosie by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics. Each version has its own personality, which shows how versatile this pattern really is.
Three of our Quilty Staffers are also joining in, making the 9 inch blocks using Blueprint by Camille Roskelley, American Gatherings III by Primitive Gatherings, and In the Garden by Corey Yoder—all for Moda Fabrics. It's fun to see how different fabric lines can completely change the mood of a block.
