Week three of the Sewing Machine Love Quilt Along has arrived, and things are officially getting scrappy. This is the week we piece together the Patchwork Quilt block, and honestly, it might be the most fun one yet.
If you missed week two, no worries. That's when we worked on the Sewing Machine block, which becomes the adorable centerpiece of the whole quilt. You can still catch up before diving into this week's patchwork piecing.
### What Are We Making, Exactly?
The Sewing Machine Love Quilt is a pictorial quilt that captures something pretty special: a quilter's love for their sewing machine, and the love quilters pass along through the projects they make together. It finishes at a cozy 46.5" x 58.5", which makes it a wonderful wall hanging or a snug throw.
The quilt features the Bloomsberry collection by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics, and the fabric line does a lot of the heavy lifting here. Soft, warm, and full of charm, it suits the nostalgic feel of this design beautifully.
### Your Complete Supplies List
Haven't gathered your supplies yet? There's still plenty of time to sew along. Here's everything you'll need, all listed in the Sewing Machine Love Quilt Pattern:
- Sewing Machine Love Quilt Kit
- Sewing Machine Love Backing Set
- Sewing Machine Love Downloadable PDF Pattern (a shop exclusive)
- Sewing Machine Love Binding Keeper (also a shop exclusive)
If you're piecing from your own stash instead, just make sure you have the pattern on hand. It walks you through every block and cutting instruction step by step.
### Why the Patchwork Block Matters
The Patchwork Quilt block is where the quilt starts to feel alive. Up to now, you've built the centerpiece. This week, you're adding texture, color, and that handmade scrappy character that makes a quilt feel personal.
Don't stress about perfection here. Patchwork is forgiving by design, and small variations in your fabric placement are part of the charm. Mix your lights and darks, trust the pattern, and enjoy the process.
> "A quilt is a hug you can keep." It's a simple idea, but it's exactly what this project is about.
### Join the Quilt Along
It's not too late to jump in. Everyone is welcome to sew along, whether you started in week one or you're just discovering this now. Grab your supplies, work through week one's blocks at your own pace, and share your progress using #SewingMachineLoveQAL.
There's also a participant badge you can download and share to let folks know you're taking part. The quilting community is one of the friendliest out there, and this is a great chance to connect with others working on the same project.
### A Few Tips Before You Start Cutting
- Read through the entire block instructions before you cut a single piece of fabric.
- Keep your seam allowances consistent; it makes patchwork assembly much smoother.
- Press as you go rather than saving all your ironing for the end.
- Label your cut pieces if you're working with many small squares.
Week three is where the quilt really starts coming together. Take your time, enjoy the scrappy chaos, and we'll see you for week four. Happy sewing!
