Week three of the Sewing Machine Love Quilt Along is here, and we're piecing the scrappy Patchwork Quilt block. Grab the full supplies list and join the fun.
Week three of the Sewing Machine Love Quilt Along is here, and things are officially getting scrappy. This is the week we piece together the Patchwork Quilt block, and honestly, it might be my favorite part so far.
If you missed week two, no worries. We worked on the Sewing Machine block, which becomes the sweet little centerpiece of the whole quilt. Think of it as the heart of the project, and everything else builds around it.
### What Is the Sewing Machine Love Quilt, Anyway?
This quilt is a love letter to the craft. It captures a quilter's love for their sewing machine and the love quilters share through the projects they make together. It finishes at a cozy 46.5" x 58.5", which makes it a great throw size for a couch or a reading chair.
The design features the Bloomsberry collection by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics. If you love soft, romantic florals with a vintage feel, this collection will win you over fast. It's pictorial, meaning the blocks come together to tell a story rather than just repeat a geometric pattern.
### Supplies You'll Need to Sew Along
Haven't gathered your supplies yet? You've still got plenty of time to catch up. Here's the full list, and it's also included in the Sewing Machine Love Quilt Pattern:
- Sewing Machine Love Quilt Kit
- Sewing Machine Love Backing Set
- Sewing Machine Love Downloadable PDF Pattern (a Fat Quarter Shop exclusive)
- Sewing Machine Love Binding Keeper (also a Fat Quarter Shop exclusive)
A quick tip from experience: pull your backing and binding aside now and label them. It's easy to mix them into your stash pile and forget where they went. Been there, done that.
### Why the Patchwork Block Matters
The Patchwork Quilt block is where the quilt starts to feel alive. You're working with smaller pieces, so accuracy matters more than speed. Take your time pressing seams as you go. A crisp press makes the next seam line up so much easier, and your finished block will lie flat instead of puckering.
> "Scrappy doesn't mean sloppy. It means you're letting the fabric do the talking."
If you're new to patchwork, don't stress about perfection. Small variations add charm, and once the quilt is quilted and washed, those tiny differences disappear into the texture.
### Join the Quilt Along
It's not too late to jump in. Everyone can sew along, and we'd love to have you. Grab your supplies, start with week one's blocks, and share your progress using #SewingMachineLoveQAL. Seeing everyone's fabric choices and color combos is half the fun.
Whether you're a seasoned quilter or this is your first pictorial project, week three is a great place to build momentum. Pull up a chair, cue your favorite playlist, and let's get scrappy together.
