They're not just for show – they can turn a simple project into something truly special. The best part? You don't need any special skills. Just a bit of practice and the right supplies. ### What You'll Need Before we dive in, gather these supplies: - Woven fabric (I used a fat quarter bundle from Moda Fabrics – the Summer Solstice Wovens collection) - Contrasting thread (50wt Aurifil in Yellow and Midnight worked beautifully) - Totally Stable Iron-on Tear-Away Stabilizer by Sulky - A pen or pencil - Sharp fabric scissors (I love my Sweet Snips 6″ ones) ### Step 1: Prepare Your Fabric First, decide on your napkin size. I wanted a dainty hanky look, so I cut my fabric to roughly 12″ x 12″ for a finished 11″ x 11″ napkin. You can go bigger or smaller – just remember to cut your fabric about 1″ larger than your desired finished size. Next, cut four 1.5″ strips of stabilizer, roughly the same length as your fabric. Iron them onto the perimeter of your fabric, textured side down. Then, use a pen or pencil and a ruler to mark your desired finished size onto the stabilizer. This will be your stitching guide. ### Step 2: Play with Your Stitches Grab one of your prepared fabric pieces and use it as a tester. Every decorative stitch is different, and you can adjust the width and length settings to change the scale and density.
