If any are off by even half an inch, it can throw off the whole quilt top. Take your time with the sashing and borders. A little patience here makes a big difference in the final look. For the cross stitch, check your thread count and fabric size. The Pale Gray Gingham Aida is 14 count, which means 14 stitches per inch. If you're using a different count, adjust your design size accordingly.
